The dual aims of the tactical training cell are to both teach the cadets leadership skills and give the cadets an idea of how to conduct themselves in the field, this includes fieldcraft such as camoflague and concealment, building an overnight shelter, and small unit tactics such as a section attack. Leadership plays a large part in this and so the TTC does try to give the cadets responsibility for themselves and their peers also.

The Cell compromises of a 6 month basic course in which the cadets learn the basics of fieldcraft and tactics, once the cadets have passed the course they may move on to an advaned course which will teach them different military operational roles such as Observation Posts, Operations in built up areas, and this course will focus more heavily on leadership both in and out of the field.

The Basic Course

The Basic Course starts by introducing cadets to the uniform (Combat 95s) and the equipment you will use on the course (Webbing, Bergans, Rifles). You are taught how to pack that equipment with all the gear you will need and how to carry it comfortably.

You then move on to the theory of fieldcraft: how camoflague and concealment works, how to take care of yourself and live in the field, and most importantly, how to start leading others in the field.

Along the way there are several exercises outdoors to stop things getting boring, including 2 weekends on training areas in the UK living in the field.
